Nissan Debuts 2010 Nissan Leaf EV Car

The Japanese auto company, Nissan, plans to introduce its latest zero-emission electric car, called the Nissan LEAF at the end of 2010 in Japan, United States, along with Europe. In terms of its performance, the medium-sized hatchback, which accommodates up to five adults, runs by means of lithium ion cells generating the 80 kW (107-hp) electric motor at the maximum torque of 208 lb-ft. In addition, as fully charged, the Nissan LEAF permits the driver to obtain 100 miles and to reach a top speed of 87 mph. One more thing, it will take the driver 8 hours to charge this electric vehicle, and this charging will be conducted on a standard 200V outlet. Nevertheless, users have another choice for DC 50kW quick-charger recharging the battery up to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes.


On the other hand, Nissan hopes to offer 200,000 editions of this model annually by 2012. To be specific, the first pair of units will come in production at the company’s Oppama, Japan, with extra quantity at the plant of Smyrna, Tennessee. Meanwhile, the lithium-ion batteries with the price of $ 10,000 per car will be introduced in Zama, Japan, with extra quantity proposed for the U.S., UK and Portugal. All in all, this stylish car is planned to go on sale at the cost of $ 30,000 in the U.S. market.


In contrast to the built-in combustion engine equipped vehicles, Nissan LEAF’s power train does not include tail pipe, so there is no emission of CO2 or other greenhouse gases


Particularly, most of the interior is made from recycled components, even from other cars, but it still looks like well-fitted


The light-emitting diode headlights of this Nissan Leaf resemble a giant pencil head or a cartoon car with both eyebrows pointed down and are designed for better wind clearance


The touchscreen display in the middle stack shows a host of energy consumption metrics, including the amount of power used by the climate controls, the extra miles, miles left, kilowatts used by the electric motor, and energy recovered by the regenerative brakes

With the advanced IT system, the car can be connected to a global data center, so the system can offer support, information, and entertainment for drivers 24 hours per day
